I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say “omg i really want to wear red lipstick but i can’t pull it off!” Ummm, yes you can! There is a shade for anyone willing to wear red! Since the holidays are here and lots of holiday parties are coming up, I thought this would be a great time to blog about REDS!

Throughout the years red lipstick has been given different reputations. Coco Chanel (of course) was one of the first to introduce a true red lipstick, launched in 1924. The color: Premier Rouge. I ❤ you Coco Chanel!!!

For medium and olive-skin tones try coral red and orange based reds. These shades really bring out the golden undertones in your skin and will brighten your skin. This shade is my expertise because I fall in this olive/medium tone category. Red looks absolutely beautiful on this skin tone but leave a little room for trial and error.

Sephora Rouge Lipstick It Girl
Nars Matte Velvet Cruella

For deeper skin tones, try bold warm reds. There is a stigma that dark skin and red clashes… thats complete BS in my book! Try shades that are rich in pigment with creamy textures.

Dior Celebrity Red 999
Clinique Long Last Merlot
Nars Lip Lacquer Diablo

For fair skin and cool undertones,  blue-based reds are the most flattering.  Blue cancels out the appearance of redness on your face and, as a plus, make teeth look whiter.

Usually red lipsticks come in blue or orange undertones, and occasionally in a yellow undertone. Certain undertones suit certain skin types. These are some of my favorite shades of red. If you’re not sure of your skin tone, try some of the suggestions from the other skin tones. You never know which shade could work for you. If you’re new to the world of red, I suggest wearing it around the house and look in the mirror a few times. Lol by the 5th time you pose in the mirror, you should start feeling a little more comfortable!

Hope this helps! And remember, the girls at Sephora, Mac, and the department store Counters are a great resource and 2nd opinion. Good luck and Happy Holidays!!!
